The Thorn Nomad Mk3

Illustration

The Thorn Nomad Mk3 is Thorn Cycles' flagship expedition touring bike, engineered for riders seeking a robust, versatile, and highly customizable platform, capable of handling everything from daily commutes to self-supported, round-the-world adventures. It builds upon the legacy of the Nomad Mk2, offering modern enhancements while retaining the rugged reliability that Thorn bikes are known for.

The Nomad Mk3 can be built with either derailleur gears or a Rohloff hub.

  • It can be built with either drops or straight bars.

  • It can be built with 26" wheels - it can take tyres up to 2.5” and can have F&R V brakes, F&R Disc brakes, or Front V and Rear disc.

  • It can be built with 650b wheels with tyres up to 60b but with F&R disc only. It can even be built with 700 x 40c wheels and tyres, with Front V and Rear disc or F&R discs.

  • All 8 of the frame’s tubes are highest quality - cold drawn, seamless, double butted and heat treated Thorn 969 tubing.

  • The Nomad Mk3 is available in a choice of 4 different colours and 12 sizes - 5 sizes with short top tubes for drop bars, or a relaxed position, 5 sizes with long top tubes for straight bars and 2 Step Through sizes.

  • The Nomad Mk3 has lost the S&S coupling option, which few people ever wanted and it’s not suspension compatible which almost nobody wanted - this has allowed the Mk3 to have a less sloping top tube and better stand over height. A Gates Carbon Belt or a prop stand may now be fitted to a Thorn for the first time.

  • The Nomad Mk3’s intended use varies between being a general purpose bike for day to day use in the real world, to being literally capable of providing reliable transport on a self-supported round the world tour, travelling on any roads or trails that wheeled transport is capable of negotiating - and short sections that no other vehicle could negotiate - because you can always carry your bike!

THE NOMAD MK3 IS OUR TAKE ON THE ULTIMATE BOMB-PROOF TOURING BIKE

We know that the Nomad Mk3 with 26" wheels and V brakes, is every bit as good as the Mk2 for serious expedition touring. With 650b wheels, it makes a superb Adventure Bike - think monster gravel bike with serious luggage capacity. The 700 x 40c AB Special is able to carry a lightweight camping load in 2 large panniers on the rear, which gives it a weight advantage, as well as an aerodynamic advantage when compared against a bike which has to carry front and rear panniers.

The 700c AB Special is an outstandingly efficient machine for light to medium weight touring.
With our new Bike Packing Disc Fork it can be built up into an absolute brute of a bike packing bike, using either 26" x 2.5"; 650 x 50-60b or 700 x 40c wheels, which will survive treatment that would certainly kill other bikes. Carrying an extra pound of steel in the frame is the cheapest, most effective insurance you can have!
